Elephant Spotlight: Behavior, Belief & Goal
Allow me share my story and how I ‘met’ my elephant, Bitsy.
I received two different yet similar messages from my parents. From my father, Al, I received the implicit message: “Children should be seen and not heard.” My mother, Louise, lived her unspoken message loud and clear: “It is not safe to divulge, trust no one.” She never shared her true feelings, actually priding herself that no one had really known her, not even her own family! My mother died a contracted, shriveled death.
These two painful and constricting messages were encoded together; I took them to heart, believing them to be my truths: “What I have to say or offer is unimportant and unappreciated; I’d best keep quiet, play it safe and small on the sidelines.”
This ‘body of belief’ did not appear to me as an elephant, but as a big, dark, looming thunder cloud that wafted over my head whenever I was on the verge of feeling expansive and BIG.
For 24 years I have successfully been co-creating behemoth body breakthroughs with my clients as a Body & Sound Therapist; lightening and heightening the vibration by infusing playful vocal repartee into sessions. Over the years my personal feelings of expansiveness became more frequent and intense, yet I remained unable to take action. They were too big to fully step into.
That was until a horrible, unimaginable tragedy cut a dear friend’s life short. Her death was my wake-up call. Suddenly, it was time to have my voice heard and claim my BIG presence on the center stage of my life!
